Two Men Arrested with Narcotics, Weapons, Body Armor

Camdenton, MO - 02-05-24 - Early Saturday morning, 02-03-24 a Camden County sheriff's deputy from the County Wide Patrol District conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near South State Highway 5 and Mount Horeb Road. The deputy identified the driver by his state issued non-driver identification as 45-year-old Joseph P Riggs, of Springfield.

 

While speaking with Riggs the deputy confirmed he had multiple active warrants and placed him into custody. The deputy then identified the passenger of the vehicle as 26-year-old Yuriy V Lyashuk and observed multiple items of drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. Lyashuk was also placed into custody.

 

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed numerous items of drug paraphernalia including bongs, pipes, and straws, 4.5 grams of suspected powdered fentanyl, more than twenty suspected fentanyl capsules, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Deputies also seized a loaded handgun, two sets of steel-plate body armor, and a set of night vision binoculars.

 

Riggs was transported to the Camden County Adult Detention Facility where he is being held on his active warrants and is charged with the Class D Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held without bond.

 

Lyashuk was also transported to the Camden County Adult Detention Facility and is charged with the Class D Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

A reminder that these charges are merely allegations of wrongdoing. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
