SHERIFF SELECTS NEW HEALTHCARE PROVIDER FOR DETAINEES OF
CAMDEN COUNTY DETENTION FACILITY

Major Inmate Medical Improvements Are Anticipated

Sheriff Dwight Franklin is pleased to announce the institution of a new healthcare program at the Camden County Detention Facility designed to raise the standard of inmate care while containing costs, despite an economy where expenses keep increasing.

The comprehensive program, which lowers healthcare costs at the detention facility, has been implemented in more than 200 jails in the Midwest and South. It focuses on improving the quality of care delivered in the correctional setting, as well as enhancing the overall health of detainees through the use of appropriate medications and counseling. With this mission at the forefront, chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and hypertension, are better managed upon the inmate’s release into the community. In fact, the program has been shown to provide better healthcare to those incarcerated than by seeing their regular physician. This is a major advantage in the care of chronic disease and for tracking infectious disease in the community.

With an average daily population of 110 inmates, the program will provide the Camden County Detention Facility with physician, nursing, and mental health services, as well as a number of other services to benefit the medical program.  

Not only does Sheriff Franklinwant an outstanding jail healthcare program, he is also looking for ways to save valuable taxpayer dollars -- the new program he has selected helps accomplish both. With this program, the county offices can buy items at a reduced rate by taking advantage of a discount pricing program. The program includes thousands of manufacturers and distributors and the county can benefit from tremendous savings in common cost areas such as food and office supplies.

The new provider, Advanced Correctional Healthcare (ACH), offers services to 214 clients in 17 states. ACH starts services at the Camden County Detention Facility in June.
