New Mexico Fugitive Apprehended

09/12/2013

On Monday, September 9th, 2013, detectives from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office working with the United States Marshals Service made an arrest in a 1991 kidnapping and sexual assault case originating in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  David Anthony Garcia, 43, was arrested without incident at his Roach, Missouri home.

In 2002, Garcia, then 36, was arrested for domestic assault by Camden County deputies.  Deputies collected a sample of his DNA and sent it the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab where it was entered into a national database.

In late August, 2013, the Santa Fe Police Department contacted the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and requested assistance in apprehending Garcia, whose DNA profile matched that of the suspect in the 1991 kidnapping and sexual assault case.

Garcia is being held in the Camden County Adult Detention Facility awaiting extradition to New Mexico.

The Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force consists of law enforcement officers from multiple Missouri agencies who have been sworn in as Special Deputy United States Marshals with the specific goal of apprehending fugitives from justice.
