During the month of June 2014, the Camden County Sheriffs’ Office, will conduct a DWI Sobriety Checkpoint. Sobriety Checkpoints are utilized in an effort to reduce the incidents of intoxicated and impaired motorists being involved in collisions.  The checkpoints are also a law enforcement tool to apprehend impaired motorists before they injure others and destroy property.

In addition to removing impaired motorists, the checkpoint is aimed at increasing awareness of driving impaired and the consequences for those who do.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “In 2012, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes – one every 51 minutes. Alcohol – impaired motor vehicle crashes cost more than an estimated $37 billion annually.”
