With the cooperation of the Missouri Department of Public Safety and the United States Defense Logistics Agency, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office recently acquired a Military Humvee at no cost.  The vehicle is valued at $34,730 and was located by searching a website where the military lists items available for donation to local law enforcement agencies. 

Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Disposition Services disposes of excess property received from the military services. In fiscal year 2008, over 56,000 military units and organizations turned in over 3.5 million items to DLA Disposition Services.

That property is first offered for reutilization within the Department of Defense (DoD), transfer to other federal agencies, or donation to state and local law enforcement agencies.  DLA Disposition Services also supports disaster relief at home and humanitarian assistance.

The Humvee will be utilized for emergency/disaster situations where regular patrol units cannot travel, like the major snowstorm which hit the lake area last month.
