On 7/19/2018 at approximately 3:15 pm, Deputies and the Camden County Animal Control Officer responded to a call involving an alleged dog bite and property dispute. The incident was at a residence off Irontown Drive, Roach, Mo.

Upon arrival and while speaking with the purported victim, Sheriff’s Department personnel could hear a goat bleating in distress and multiple dogs barking. Department personnel and the property owner walked down a long path into the woods where two adult women, one adult male, 23 dogs, and a goat were living in a camping tent surrounded by fencing. The conditions were deplorable.

The goat was surrendered to deputies that afternoon because of an infected leg injury and is being fostered and is expected to make a full recovery. The bite was unsubstantiated.

Camden County Animal Control contacted the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force to assist in this situation. On 7/24/2018, Camden County Sheriff’s Deputies, Animal Control and Humane Society of Missouri worked jointly to have 16 of the animals voluntarily surrendered. They will be evaluated by veterinary staff, rehabilitated and made available for adoption.
