Independence Day Letter from the Sheriff
July 4, 2025
Citizens and Visitors,
All of us here at the Camden County Sheriff's Office wish you, your family, and all our visitors a safe and exciting Fourth of July holiday weekend! Remember the reason we celebrate and take these reminders to be safe and take precautions to ensure the safety of everyone in our community.
We caution anyone traveling during the holiday to always wear your seat belt and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Instead, plan for a designated driver to get you home safely. Not only do you risk your life when you drive impaired, but you also put the other drivers and passengers you share the roadway with at risk as well.
Several hundred thousand visitors will be here this weekend and that will mean an increase in traffic on our roads, on the water, and in our stores, restaurants, and other businesses from folks who may not be familiar with the area. Leave earlier than you think you may need to account for this increased traffic!
We will also be celebrating with our families with fireworks displays, but we want to remind everyone to do so safely. While using fireworks please remember these tips...
- After fireworks complete their burning, to prevent a trash fire, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding the device.
- Always read warning labels and performance descriptions before lighting a firework.
- Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse, and move to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks
- Only light fireworks one at a time.
- Only use fireworks outdoors, away from buildings and vehicles, and never point/throw fireworks at anyone.
My staff and I from the Camden County Sheriff's Office wish you all a Happy Independence Day! It is my continued honor to serve as your elected sheriff.
Sincerely,
Chris Edgar
Sheriff, Camden County
